Erica Minchella is our Real Estate Attorney member. Erica described how her business has changed as the real estate market has evolved. When she moved to Skokie in 2008, she found that she had to reinvent herself. Instead of handling mostly conventional real estate closings, she tackled the foreclosure defense issues that so many people were facing. This was the major portion of her business for the past several years. Recently, with the change in the market where foreclosures are not as prevalent, she has reinvented herself again.

Currently she is working with real estate investor groups, particularly those groups that are focusing their efforts on investor education. There is a lot of risk involved and some groups have found their marketing niche to make their members aware of the risks. Erica described them as more of the MasterMind type of group where they present topics on handling title problems, complaints, waiting out short sales etc. Some on the groups have an IRA component to the investing. Erica’s advise to people considering real estate investing is to not do it alone.
