Howard Meyer is our Chamber of Commerce member. Howard gave us a presentation on recent activity in Skokie from an economic development standpoint. Of the 1,800 business in Skokie, approximately 600 are members of the Skokie Chamber of Commerce. Howard is Vice-Chairman of the Skokie Economic Development Commission. Currently they are working on a Village Signage Ordinance. Some of the issues are allowing electronic signs. They are also working on developing an Window Appearance ordinance with issues about the amount of window tinting should be allowed. They are also developing a concept that could lead to video gaming and the type of businesses that would be allowed to have video games in their facilities. There currently are 3 TIF districts in Skokie – Downtown, Illinois Science and Technology Park and West Dempster. There also are designated Enterprise Zones that are eligible for low % loans for infrastructure improvements in the industrial sector, Howard also mention a number of project under development in Skokie.
