Howard gave more economic updates about the Village of Skokie. A record 7,400 building permits were issued last year. Included in that is the planned 11 story apartment building scheduled to be built at the corner of Lincoln and Oakton and new condos on Skokie Blvd. just north of Oakton. Both are hoping to attract employees from the Tech Park.
Old Orchard mall has been sold to a French company. The theaters have been upgraded. The one across from Barnes and Noble was given better seating and new food options in the lobby. The one near Potbelly’s now has recliner seats and restaurant type food from Lettuce Entertain You. Also in the mall: Lord & Taylor’s and McCormick & Schmicks will be closing.
The Piser building at Church St. & Skokie Blvd has been sold to Water Works high end car wash. The old Kabul restaurant space on Oakton will be now be an Italian market type restaurant.
Because of the village’s economic success, it has the distinction of being the only municipality that the state buys bonds from.
