Mark spoke of the growing number of devices now grouped as the Internet of Things (IoT). First only computers but now includes phones, tvs, thermostats and refrigerators. All have service providers to connect to the Internet but owners must take the responsibility to make sure there is adequate security on the connections. Registering the devices with the manufacturer will notify you when updates and patches are available to increase security.
He also spoke of the growing trend of what is called 2 Factor Authentication which is a method of logging into a website with both a password and a second code that is texted to the owner to verify identity. This has come up due to growing threat of hackers gaining personal information that could be used to steal identities.
