Steve talked about the differences in Medicare plans. Many people are not aware that they have to formally register with Medicare if they are not already receiving Social Security payments. Registration should be done 3 months prior to your 65th birthday. It has four “parts” or plans.
Part A: in-hospital expenses. Free if you have worked 10 years or more.
Part B: outside hospital expenses. In a hospital for “observation” falls in this category.
Part D: covers prescription drug expenses.
Part C: covers all of above but is through a private insurance company working with Medicare. Has out-of-pocket caps that the other plans do not have.
