Thomas Guth 6-15-16
Thomas Guth is our Jeweler member. Thomas reminded us of the number of Holidays that are suitable for jewelry gifting: New Year’s, Valentines Day, Mother’s Day, Grandparents Day, Christmas as well as Christenings, Weddings, Communion, Graduations. Jewelry is gift which can last forever and can be handed down for generations. Every month has its own birthstone, some of which are precious gemstones. Thomas designs jewelry which can use several different stones in an ensemble fashion. He explained that he is finding that his clients are requesting jewelry made with silver, partially because of its similarity in appearance to white gold. Silver polishes and sets well, but it will oxidize on exposure to air. He also sees requests for yellow gold and for platinum, which is used as the pure metal, not alloyed. Thomas described how he envisions the finished piece from the clients requests and then draws it out prior to creating the mock-up. While he used to do more hand drawing, he now uses CAD programs which can add a 3D effect to the rendering. Remember Thomas Guth and Thomas Jewelers when you hear your associates mention that they are looking for that special jewelry piece.
