Van gave various cases he worked on recently. The most notable involved an assistant coach’s ex-wife who was going to Federal prison for a year. She told her ex-husband about it four days before. Her sister was coming to stay with their 16 year old daughter but the father thought he should have custody of her for the time even though he lived out of state and the daughter would have to move.
A judge in Rolling Meadows thought he should ask the daughter what she wanted which was pointless actually because she was still a minor and the law is clear that a biological parent gets custody over other relatives. The judge approved the father’s custody on a temporary basis.
